GNU/Linux (general)

My distribution of choice is Debian GNU/Linux. However, some of the things that interest me are more widely applicable to GNU/Linux in general without being specific to one distribution or another.

2015-10-03: I gave a presentation at Ohio LinuxFest called "How Git Changed My Life (as a Software Engineer) and How It Can Change Yours". You can see my presentation slides in either OpenDocument or PDF.

2015-10-02: I taught a class at the Ohio LinuxFest Institute. It was an intensive 6 hour course (two 3 hour sessions) on packaging software for Debian. The class covered the anatomy of a Debian package, packaging a simple binary utility, packaging a Python module, packaging a C/C++ library, and distributing packages via a repository. The materials are not online yet because they are really designed for an instructor-led setting. If you are interested in receiving this training please contact me.

2014-10-25: I gave a presentation at Ohio LinuxFest called "Using Git to Manage Your System's Configuration". You can see my presentation slides in either OpenDocument or PDF.

2014-03-01: I was invited to give a presentation at the Dayton Linux Users Group (DLUG) InstallFest called "Backing Up Your System With Rsnapshot". You can see my presentation slides in either OpenDocument or PDF.

You can see my presentation slides in PDF. (These are the same slides that are linked below I presented at Northeast GNU/Linuxfest, but with a different title slide. Feel free to also listen to the audio linked below if you want to hear the actual presentation.)

2011-04-02: I attended Northeast GNU/Linux Fest 2011 in Worcester, MA. This year I was a speaker. You can see my presentation slides in PDF. If you would like to hear audio of the presentation, it was featured as an episode of "This Week in Debian" (.ogg file, .mp3 audio).

2010-09-11: I attended Ohio LinuxFest 2010 in Columbus, OH. This year I did not present, nor did I bother to take pictures. Perhaps next year I will do one or both of those things. (I keep saying that, but I really mean it this time.)

2010-08-01 to 2010-08-07: I attended DebConf 10 (my first DebConf) in New York City. It was absolutely fantastic. I got to meet lots of Debian folks who I had only previously known through online interaction.
